Local Road Routes

Follow at your own risk. All routes begin on campus and are sorted in order of difficulty, from beginner to expert.

  1. Hudson River Greenway - 16 miles of flat, scenic Hudson River waterfront bike path takes you past the Intrepid Museum (Mile 3.9/12.0), Whitney Museum (Mile 5.8/10.1), World Trade Center (Mile 7.6), World Financial Center (Mile 8.0), and Battery Park (Mile 8.3)

  2. Central Park - the world renowned park is less than a 5 minute ride from campus and once you get there, do as many 6 mile laps as you’d like, rollings hills, bathrooms and water fountain at the Central Park Boathouse near East 75th Street, food cart vendors throughout the park and Heavenly Rest Stop cafe at 5th Ave and East 90th Street

  3. River Road - 27 miles, 1750 ft elevation including a 1.2 mile climb averaging 6% (great for hill repeats), the default training ride, stop at the Alpine Police Station (Mile 13.9) or Strictly Bicycles (Mile 21.4) for water fountain and restrooms

  4. Piermont - classic weekend coffee shop ride, 39 miles, 2000 ft elevation, once in town, there are 3 main eateries for cyclists: Bunbury’s Coffee Shop (cafe) at 460 Piermont Ave, Community Market (deli) at 485 Piermont Ave, or Piermont Bike (donuts) at 215 Ash Street

  5. Ash, Tweed, Nike - 52 miles, 3500 ft elevation, The climb for which this ride is named after is the longest continuous climb within 20 miles of campus. It begins in Piermont with a 15% grade, continues for 1.6 miles, averaging 7%, and ends in Nike Overlook Park, a decommissioned missile launch site. The Runcible Spoon at 37 North Broadway in Nyack offers water refilling (ask the cashier), bathrooms, and delicious baked goods

  6. Apple Orchards - 69 miles, 4000 ft elevation, the final climb to the apple orchards is 1.6 miles averaging 4%

  7. Bear Mountain Century - 94 miles, 6750 ft of elevation with a 4.7 mile climb averaging 5%

 

Track

Kissena Velodrome - fixed gear track cyclists can drive 30 minutes from campus to Queens to experience this 400 meter velodrome, free parking available

 

Off Road

Cyclocross Fun - 36 miles beginning at the State Line Lookout parking lot, or ride/take the shuttle from campus and intercept route at Lamont, 60% dirt/gravel paths, also rideable on a 25mm/28mm tire road bike, takes you through State Line Lookout, Columbia’s Lamont Doherty Earth Observatory, Tallman Mountain State Park, Old Erie Path, Nyack Beach Bikeway, and Piermont Pier, stop in Piermont or Nyack for food or restrooms
